I'm travelling solo. Will I fit in?

Absolutely. The shared spaces, pool and big tables make conversation come naturally. You can also pick up a book and enjoy a moment to yourself. You don't have to be the most outgoing person in the group to make unforgettable connections.

Castelo or Casa: what's the difference?

The Castelo is the historic building, with dorms and private rooms with shared bathrooms. The Casa extends the experience with dorms and private rooms with en-suite bathrooms. Check the building and bathroom type carefully when booking.

Is breakfast included?

Breakfast is available on site. Whether it's included depends on your booking: check the details of your selected rate or ask the team before confirming.

What if I visit during Carnival?

Experiencing Rio de Janeiro's Carnival at Castelo dos Tucanos is unforgettable. Special rates and conditions may apply during this period. Check your dates in the booking system or contact the team to plan your stay.

Where should I go when I arrive?

There are two receptions: Rua Fonseca Guimarães, 55 for the Castelo, and Rua Paschoal Carlos Magno, 5 for the Casa. Your booking confirmation tells you which building to go to. If you’re unsure, contact the team.

How can I check prices and availability?

Rates vary with your dates, room type and season. “Check availability & book” opens the Castelo’s Booking.com page, where you can check rooms and conditions before confirming.

Are there rooms with private bathrooms?

Yes, the Casa offers private rooms with en-suite bathrooms. At the Castelo, private rooms share a bathroom. Check the description of your chosen category before booking.

How do I get to the castle from the airport?

Give your taxi or rideshare driver the reception address on your confirmation: Castelo or Casa. Santa Teresa is a hilly neighbourhood; getting straight to the right door is easier with a backpack. The team is available on WhatsApp to help you plan your journey.

Do I have to join the parties to enjoy my stay?

Everyone finds their own rhythm. Join a big table, drop by the bar or settle down with a book in the garden. Events and meals depend on the programme on site: ask the team what’s happening during your stay.

Can I contact the team before booking?

Of course. Message us on WhatsApp about your dates, a group stay or what you have in mind. You can also prepare a request on our booking page, review it and send it to the team yourself.

Can we enjoy the garden and pool?

Yes. A huge pool, sun loungers and a tropical garden are part of life at the Castelo. A little forest connects the castle to Casa: share a moment or find a quiet corner at your own pace.

Is there a rooftop at the castle?

A rooftop with extraordinary views over Rio is hidden at the top of the Castelo. Ask the team to show you this secret spot when you arrive.

What activities can we share on site?

Ping-pong, pool, futmesa, art workshops, yoga and language exchanges: so many ways to meet. The current programme is shared in the WhatsApp group open to all guests.

When are the bars open?

The Castelo bar opens from 8 pm to midnight. The Casa bar welcomes you from 10 pm until around 3 am. Cocktails, beers and soft drinks: find your rhythm.

Can I choose a female dorm?

Yes, the Castelo has a ten-bed dorm reserved for female travellers. Find it on Our rooms, then check availability for your dates.

Are there lockers for my belongings?

Lockers are available at the hostel. Ask the team about your room's arrangements and how to use them when you arrive.

Can I work here and stay longer?

Free coworking and Wi-Fi throughout the castle help you keep your rhythm. For a month or more, discover our coliving residence, near the Casa: a private room, bathroom and high-speed internet. The team can explain availability and conditions.

If I stay at the Casa, can I visit the castle?

Yes. Both buildings are part of the same property, connected by a little forest. Casa guests can use the Castelo's spaces, and Castelo guests can enjoy the Casa's.

Do Casa dorms have their own bathrooms?

Yes. The four- and six-bed dorms have an attached bathroom, shared by the guests in that dorm.

What about staying a month or longer?

Coliving Rio, near the Casa, is designed for stays of at least one month. A private room, your own bathroom and high-speed internet, with time to truly live Rio. Discover our Coliving page.

What is the minimum stay?

The residence welcomes stays of at least one month. Tell the team your dates and how long you’d like to stay, and find the room that suits you.

What budget should I plan for?

Rates start at US$1,500 per month. The price depends on the room, dates and length of stay. The team confirms the rate and conditions before you book.
